The O’Shannassy Reservoir Tunnel project was an engineering challenge, drilling 425 metres into the earth.
So how does a mural fit into this? Historically, Saint Barbara was the ‘Patron of the Miners’ and her image was fortuitous, bringing good luck and fortune to any drilling or mining project. And so, in keeping with tradition, we painted her iconic depiction on the concrete block supporting the oversized drill which was nick-named ‘Collette’.
